The Changing Moon
W: My lesson plan and presentation of the Picture Perfect Science Lesson "The Changing Moon" is a lesson that incorporated environmental education across different content areas, like literacy (ELA) and science. This collaborate effort was grounded in the understanding of the moon, the moons phases, and how students see the moon from earth. Students are encouraged to create a moon journal, observing the moon each night. I used the MST Standards to have questions pose questions, seek answers, analyze texts and observe the moon.
SW: The moon is a part of a student's daily life, but not many students understand the phrases or/and have many misconceptions about the moon.
My learning objectives for this lesson were:
NW: Teaching lessons across different content areas are so important with the increasing time spent on ELA and the reduction in time on science content. Using picture books and science content area texts are a great resource in teaching across content areas.
SW: The moon is a part of a student's daily life, but not many students understand the phrases or/and have many misconceptions about the moon.
My learning objectives for this lesson were:
- Students will be able to identify the phases of the moon, why it occurs and develop an understanding of the scientific process of observation.
- Students will be able to identify scientific inaccuracies in children’s literature, like Papa, Get Me The Moon.
